Silvertip Springs Association Annual Meeting

Our annual Association meeting was held July 15th, 2023, at the Association's A-Frame in the Common Area.  You may access the minutes from the meeting by visiting the tab "Meetings & Minutes."

Woodcutting on the Plumas National Forest

To determine if woodcutting is permitted on a given day, call (800) 847-7766 prior to cutting wood.  A recorded message will notify woodcutters if the next day is hoot-owl (no cutting after 1 pm), open all day (no restrictions), or no woodcutting allowed that day.  Note:  Call before 4:30 pm on the day before you plan to cut as the message is updated for the following day at about that time.  Hot and dry weather is expected to continue through summer and early fall resulting in increased fire danger.  As fire danger increases, woodcutting may be shut down across the forest.

Public Resource Code 4291

Public Resource Code 4291 requires that homeowners in Mountainous, Forest, Brush and Grass Covered lands to develop defensible space by removing ladder fuels within the first 100 feet of a structure, or to the property line.  Page 30 of the CC&Rs Section 6.2(f) addresses the home owner's responsibility to remove dead and dying trees.  The Board urges compliance with these provisions at the owner's earliest possible option in order to have the best chance of reducing fire risk and the spread of airborne plant diseases.

Free Fishing Days

The Department of Fish and Game offers two Free Fishing Days each year.  On these days, you can fish without having to buy a sport fishing license.  Free Fishing Days provide a great, low-cost way to give fishing a try.  While all fishing regulations, such as bag and size limites, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect, there are two days each year when anyone can fish without purchasing a fishing license.

The Free Fishing Days for 2023 Saturday, July 1st and Saturday, September 2, 2023.  For more information visit the Department of Fish and Game at http://www.wildlife.ca.gov

Bear Activity

Please remember that bears and other animals are attracted to anything edible or smelly.  The checklist below will help you bear-proof your cabin.  Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/keep-me-wild for brochures, precautions and additional information including what to do if a bear enters your home.

  • Keep garbage cans clean and deodorize them with bleach or ammonia.
  • Store garbage in bear-proof containers, or store garbage in your garage.
  • Don't leave trash, groceries, or animal feed in your car.
  • Only provide bird feeders outside during November through March and always hang feeders so they are inaccessible to bears.
  • don't leave any scented products outside, even non-food items such as suntan lotion, insect repellent, soap or candles.
  • Keep barbecue grills clean.
  • Keep food and pets inside.
  • Securely block access to potential hibernation sites such as crawl spaces under decks and buildings.
  • Keep doors and windows closed and locked.  Scents can lure bears inside.
